Just Ask: VA Improved Pension Benefits Boot Camp

November 9, 2020
,
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

If you or a loved one served in the armed forces, you may be eligible for pension benefits through the Veterans Administration to cover the costs of long-term care.

Topeka Presbyterian Manor will host a free virtual event featuring local elder law attorney Scott Sexton November 9 and look at changes to the program made in 2018 and 2019 that can provide financial support for veterans who otherwise might end up applying for Medicaid assistance for long-term care.

Sexton is a member of the Kansas Bar Association. He began his career as assistant general counsel for the state of Kansas’ Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS), where he was first exposed to the areas of long-term care planning and elder law. He joined Scott, Quinlan, Willard, Barnes & Keeshan LLC, in Topeka in 2004, where he continued working with families in estate planning. In 2009, he founded The Law Office of Scott W. Sexton PA, a niche firm focused on providing comprehensive long-term care planning work to families throughout Kansas and veterans benefits planning in all 50 states.

The virtual “VA Improved Pension Boot Camp” presentation hosted by Topeka Presbyterian Manor will begin at 2 p.m. November 9.  The talk is part of Topeka Presbyterian Manor’s Just Ask series, a free, ongoing lifelong learning program featuring information from local, regional and national experts on topics of interest to older adults and their families.
